२० नोव्हेंबर २०२२ अमरावती बनतेय का राजकीय प्रयोगशाळा? - धनंजय देशमुख, मुंबई अमरावती (प्राचीन इन्द्रपुरी) जवळपास सात-आठ लाख लोकसंख्या असलेले पश्चिम विदर्भातील एक मोठे शहर. मागच्या आठवड्यात अमरावती आणि बडनेरा येथे चार वर्षांच्या कालावधी नंतर जाणे झाले. ह्या खेपेला फारसे फिरणे झाले नसले तरीही काही बदल नजरेत बसले. नागपूरहून अमरावतीला येतांना रहाटगांव नाक्यावर आता कपड्यांची भरपूर मोठमोठी दुकाने /मॉल झाली आहेत, ज्यामुळे बरीच लोक इकडे खरेदीसाठी येतात. हे मार्केट पूर्णपणे नव्या पद्धतीने वसवलेले आहे असे म्हंटले तर वावगे ठरणार नाही. कदाचित शहरातील मूळ कपड़ा मार्केट कधी काळी (50-70 वर्षांपूर्वी) असेल वसवलेले असेल. त्याचप्रमाणे या भागात अनेक मोठी मंगल कार्यालये उभी राहिली आहेत. कपड़ा मार्केट आणि मंगल कार्यालय झाल्याने हा भाग आता शहरातील वाटतो, कारण वर्दळ वाढलेली आहे. दूसरी लक्षणीय बाब म्हणजे शहरातील सिमेंटचे रस्ते - गाडगेनगर ते बडनेरा येथपर्यंत. त्यामुळे वाहतुकीला गती प्राप्त झालेली दिसते. शहरातील शिक्षण संस्था प्रगत असल्याने अनेक व्यक्ति परदेशी किंवा पुणे, मुंबई सारख्या मोठ्या शहरात चांगल्या प्र...

20 November 2022, Mumbai Let’s have a ball, Pickleball! A school friend of mine recently got transferred from Kolkata to Mumbai. Being a fitness-oriented person, he asked me if there are any good recreation (sports) facilities nearby. Knowing that he got an apartment in the heart of Vile Parle East, I was quick to recommend Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul (PTKS) – an obvious choice for anyone living in the western suburbs to relax, unwind, train and play!   While he was thrilled to see the Olympic size swimming pool, he got curious about a game that a group of boys were playing in the open area.
