Battle of Generations, Mumbai

4th January 2026 Battle of Generations - Mumbai’s time is “NOW”.. Mumbaikars’ tryst with democracy is on 15th January when voting for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), asia’s richest governance setup takes place. This is a golden chance for voters across all generations like boomers, Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z to elect a set of corporators who could solve their basic problems, and address aspirations optimally. Although each generation’s priorities would be different – from modern infra to lesser corruption to transparency to communal harmony to environment to preserving linguistic identity or track record or diversity-equity-inclusivity to futurist (looking ahead).  This heady mix of generations and their priorities makes it a lot difficult for political parties to make a common denominator of promises, and put them on their voting platter. Hopefully, the intelligent ones will be able to make a good & believable platter of promises. Less of freebies and m...

Moment of reckoning, Mumbaikar

Mumbai. For some it is a city of dreams and glamour, some had "haadsaas (accidents)", many made a "good life" out of it, few made generational wealth while enduring here. So what is this Mumbai exactly? Is it a home to slums or glossy sky-scrapers, curvy-flyovers or is it a thriving economy, or a culture or a simple habitat? Maybe all of that. Most importantly, it is like a sea of wealth!! With every incoming wave it brings wealth to many, and with every outgoing tide it erodes wealth of a few! This “sea of wealth” has been a relentless attraction for majority of its inhabitants. For ages and Generations. All socio-economic classes thrive on that sea of wealth : the ultra-mega-super rich to neo-rich to upper middle-class to middle class to lower middle-class to financially constrained. This sea of wealth gives rise to aspirations to each of these classes – every moment. All of these classes have a symbiotic relationships with each other, and that's how this ci...

YE "Ecosystem" Kya Hai?

14 April 2023, Mumbai YE "Ecosystem" Kya Hai? Today, Indian m edia is abuzz with claims and counter claims on the encounter that happened in UP. Some Writers, Journalists, advocates, politicians, debaters, social media influencers making commoners believe that this was a staged encounter. No wonder if an NGO file up a PIL for setting an enquiry committee to validate the encounter (like in many other cases). A few days later some legal expert, educationist, celebrities may react emotionally, and some filmmaker may make a film showing him being martyred. Obviously this is to lead the commoners to the old trap that a part of the society in India is victimized. Media will play to the gallery as usual. A very old ploy. This is not the only incident. A few months earlier, a small firm based in the USA called shots to cause one of the steepest falls in the fortunes of the one of the world’s richest people, who happened to be an Indian! We saw, how passionately some students were c...

Entertain-omics!

23 Jan 2023, Mumbai Entertain-omics! The 70s kids, especially those from a tier 3/4 towns would remember a sight vividly, jadugar – surrounded by many bystanders, a man promises to show a fight of snake and mongoose (which never happens). He starts by showcasing a snake and a mongoose separately, tells stories about them and gets the crowd into conversation. Suddenly in between he would start discussing some “power” medicines and get one from the audience to discuss his problem. The jadugar would ask him a few things, to which the stranger resist, but suddenly the jadugar would play trick and the stranger behaves as being hypnotized and eventually buys the “power” medicine! Seeing him buy, many from the crow buy that medicine, leaving a small chaos. And the show of snake-mongoose never happens! Public leaves the place, and after some time, one could find the “stranger” hobnobbing with the jadugar later! See, how smart seller that jadugar was! His man would act as the first customer...
